Paying with cash: An exact fare system is operated by Dublin Bus and only coins (not notes) are accepted. No change is given. Prepaid tickets: You can also pay your fare with a prepaid ticket. Magnetic prepaid tickets must be inserted into the bus validator when boarding.
Can I pay with my card on the bus? Look for the contactless symbol on your credit or debit card to see if your card is contactless enabled. Then, board a bus with the contactless symbol and instead of paying with cash, simply tap your card or contactless-enabled device onto the reader and wait for the beep.
Then, Is the Nitelink running? Normal services run from 5.00am until midnight. The Nitelink service operates from midnight until 4.00am on Friday and Saturday nights. The Dublin Bus range of services include Cross City, Radial, Orbital, DART Feeder, express limited stop commuter services, Nitelink and Sightseeing tours.
What age is free travel in Ireland? The Free Travel Scheme allows you to travel, free of charge, on public transport and some private bus and ferry services. Everyone aged 66 and over, living permanently in Ireland, can get the Free Travel Scheme. People with disabilities and carers aged under 66 may also qualify for Free Travel.

Can you bring a dog on Dublin Bus?

There is no limit to the number of assistance dogs the bus driver can allow on a bus, as long as there is space. The assistance dog is the responsibility of its owner and must be kept under control, whether it is in a harness, leash or carrier. An assistance dog must not block the aisle or travel on a seat.
What happens if I tap in and out at the same station? If you tap in and out at the same station after 30 minutes — say you travel across London only to realise you forgot your keys so have to go back to your original station — your balance is taking a serious hit. The system will assume you’ve done two incomplete journeys and charge you for both of them.
What happens if you don’t tap out Tube? If you don’t touch in and out, we can’t tell where you’ve travelled from or to, so your journey will be incomplete. Maximum fares don’t count towards capping.
Is it cheaper to use Oyster or contactless? There is a very small financial advantage to using a contactless card if you’re in London for more than a week and travel extensively every single day (weekly capping) but otherwise it’s no cheaper than using an Oyster.
Is the Nitelink back?
Dublin Bus has confirmed Nitelink services will resume from Friday, January 28th. The service, which provides 13 late night/early morning routes across the Greater Dublin Area, had previously been halted due to Covid-19 restrictions.

If you don’t have a default set on your card and you forget to tap off at the end of your trip, you’ll be charged the fare to the last stop on the train line or bus route and with your fare type and any applicable loyalty discounts applied. This is because the PRESTO system doesn’t know where you travelled to.

What happens if I forget to tap out on contactless? Tapping In and Out
If you forget to tap in or out with your contactless card you’ll get the same maximum fare as you would with Oyster.
What happens if you tap out with a different card?
What happens if I touch in with one contactless card, and touch out with another on the same journey? It’s important that you try to avoid doing this, as you’ll be charged a maximum fare on both of your cards. The two separate journeys won’t be linked and each one will be recognised as incomplete.
